Trekking from Salkantay to Machu Picchu

Salkantay trekking is a very interesting alternative to the very crowded Inca Trail . During this trek with very varied landscapes, you will flirt with the high altitude before quickly plunging into a semi-tropical climate. And, as a reward, you will arrive at the famous Machu Picchu which you will visit during the last day. Day 1 : Very early departure by private vehicle to Mollepata from where we will begin the walk around 9am. Among the team there will be a guide, a cook, one or two muleteers with their mules to carry all the equipment and your belongings. There will also be a backup horse that will remain with the group during the march. The walk of about 10 km will take us to the small hamlet of Soraypampa, gradual climb to reach about 4000 meters for the camp, we can already see the Tucarhuay and Salkantay mountains . Day 2 : This day, the most difficult of the trek, will take us over the Salkantay Pass at 4600 meters from where we can observe a splendid view of the Salkantay su...

AS AN EXCITING ALTERNATIVE ADVENTURE: VIA SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU

Top of the must-do list for any traveler in Peru: Machu Picchu – Wonder of the Modern World. Of course also on mine. At the beginning of my research I asked myself what possibilities there are to visit the famous Inca terraces. Before I report on my Salkantay Trek experiences, I would like to briefly summarize which paths came into question for me and why I ultimately decided on the Salkantay Trek. Which way to Machu Picchu? Day trip to Machu Picchu : The bus will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco early in the morning and take you to the train station in Ollantaytambo. From there you can take the train to Aguas Calientes and then continue by bus to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Here follows a guided tour through the famous Inca ruins, after which it's back to Aguas Calientes by bus, by train to Ollantaytambo and by bus back to the hotel. Most day treks look something like this. For people who don't have much time but still don't want to miss Machu Picchu, it's definite...

Inca Trail: What you need to know about the hike to Machu Picchu

The Inca Trail (Spanish: camino inca) is the king of Peru's hiking trails. This 4-day trekking leads along Andean Cordilleras, over high passes, through scenic forests and finally down into the mountain rainforest, where the trekkers walk through the sun gate "Inti Punku" and look at Machu Picchu on the last day. As a section of the "Qhapac ñan", the Inca Trail largely follows the original paths of the Incas, which makes it so unique. "Qhapac ñan" refers to the Inca road network, which covers a total of 30,000 kilometers and stretches across the countries of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. In 2014, the IncaTrail Network was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is due to the engineering feat of the Incas and the need to preserve the condition of the trails and their surrounding landscapes. Inca trail treks The Inca Trail I finally walked the Inca Trail myself! I look back on four eventful days of uphill and downhill, along scen...

Salkantay Trail: An Incredible Machu Picchu Adventure

There are different ways to access the famous Machu Picchu, but being well motivated to realize this dream, I wanted to play it hard and get there thanks and only to the sweat of my brow. The Salkantay trek was therefore what suited me. Trekking: Salkantay Trek Duration: 5 days One of my wildest dreams was to visit Machu Picchu, and I decided to make that dream come true in December during a trip to South America with my boyfriend. So yes, December is not the best season, but there are opportunities not to be missed and this is one of them. We had to try and see if the Pacha Mama would be with us or not. Arrived in Cusco, we agreed: We go there in MAR-CHANT. Rather adventurous, sporty, and in love with Andean landscapes, it was a challenge for me to do the Salkantay Trekking . Salkantay Trail – Essential guide for the best trekking to Machu Picchu

Machu Pichu is undoubtedly one of the places that every person should visit before they die (at least in my opinion) Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu “Inca Trail” is certainly the best known, but the Salkantay trail is very good and less disputed. The only disadvantage of Salkantay, compared to “ Inca Trail ”, is that you will only see ruins at the end, however there are much less people and you don't need to book so far in advance. Another important detail: the trail is more physically challenging than “El Camino Inca”. This differential can be proved by being a high mountain path (highest point 4,600 meters) and passing very close to glaciers. The minimum temperature on the Salkantay Trek  can reach -5ºC, but only on the first night. On this trail you will feel the true spirit of mountain and adventure, in addition to meeting people from the interior of Peru and seeing incredible landscapes. Salkantay Trail, Peru: is it worth it? Salkantay is among the top 25 trails in the world a...
